This tour has guaranteed departures from March to November, departing every Sunday and Tuesday (Minimum two people.)

Itinerary

1 Sun (CUSCO / PILCOPATA) Departure very early by bus from Cusco to Pilcopata. Along the route we'll pass through the villages of Huambutio, Huancarani (at 4,100 mt.), Paucartambo, the pass of Ajanaco (Tres Cruces de Oro) and begin to claim down toward the Amazon Forest. In only very few minutes, the ecological change is brutal. We'll go from the ichu, typical herb of the Puna to an exuberant vegetation which will accompany us through the rest of the trip. Box lunch. Afternoon arrival to Pilcopata. Dinner and overnight.
2 Mon (PILCOPATA / ALTO MADRE DE DIOS) Bus to Atalaya then by boat head down the river to Erika lodge. Afternoon hike. Overnight at the lodge.
3 Tue (ALTO MA. DE DIOS/BOCA MANU) Here we meet with passengers joining us from their flights from Cusco. Late afternoon cap at the covered platform at Limonal Control station. Camp.
4 Wed (BOCA MANU/SALVADOR LAKE) We will observe again the immensity of the rain forest and the diversity of wild life. PM arrival at the Machiguenga tribe camp and their Lodge where we will overnight. Hikes and canoe trip. Observe caiman searching for pray from a catamaran. Return to the lodge. Overnight.
5 Thu (SALVADOR LAKE) Full day activities. We will visit Otorongo lake and from a strategically located elevated tower we will observe wild life. Overnight at the lodge.
6 Fri (SALVADOR LAKE/BOCA MANU) Those who return to Cusco by plane will board their flight. After a short trip on a river boat we arrive to the Madre de Dios river and we'll camp near to the hot springs of Itahuania.
7 Sat (BOCA MANU/ATALAYA) Continue by boat to Atalaya, then by bus to Pilcopata and overnight at the lodge.
8 Sun (ATALAYA/CUSCO) Bus ride back to Cusco arriving late at night.

TAMBOPATA CANDAMO NATIONAL RESERVE

This reserve includes 1'478,000 hectares and expands from Puno (60%) to Madre de Dios (40%). It has several different habitats and in the forests there are 750 species of birds, 1,100 butterflies, and close to 190 different types or trees. This area never knew of humans settlers until 40 years ago. The Explorer Inn has received 5,500 hectares as a concession for organized tourism. The guides are scientist who are working in this area from all over the world.

Puerto Maldonado. PEM Arrival and transfer by four hours boat ride to a much inner jungle to the Explorer's Inn. Overnight. Excursions to the adjacent jungle and lakes. L/D

Very early wake up to depart to the macaws "colpa". This is one of the marvelous things of the Amazon forest. Large number of this multicolor birds arrive every morning to feed from a special clay that vastly exists on a close hill. During the afternoon we may hike through a trail back toward the lodge accompanied by a native guide. Camp overnight. B/L/D

Return to the Explorer's Inn. In our way we will observe caimans and other species. Wild life is everywhere. Overnight. B/L/D

Activities scheduled per camp director. Visit the Cocococha lake which has similar characteristics to those of Lake Sandoval. Hike throughout the jungle, visit Indian villages, fish, swim,or just relax. Overnight. B/L/D

5

Transfer by motorized canoe to Puerto Maldonado. Transfer to the airport for your flight out. END OF OUR SERVICES

RECOMMENDED ITEMS: Shower cap or swimming cap, light mattress, long and short pants, T-shirt short and long sleeves, swimming clothes, boots water proof, rain coat, sun glasses, insect repellent, sun cover, and personal medication.
