PERU A MYSTICAL LAND
Minimum four people. Please call for details.
For centuries, man has sought to find a reason for
his presence on Earth. He has made pilgrimages to places like the pyramids of Egypt and
the temples of India to find the answer. Both of these centers of wisdom and knowledge of
the occult have had a profound influence on the conscience of numerous searchers of the
truth who passed on their wisdom from Master to Disciple. In time, this information spread
due to the increase of freedom which man slowly conquered.
Certain impenetrable and esoteric groups have played the role of keepers of the message of
centuries past. This exclusive tour consists of three parts: Five days/4 nights from April
to October visiting the main enclave of Chavin de Huantar (Huaraz) which was the main
center of innitiation. Second part runs all year round for seven days/six nights visiting
Cusco, the magnetic center of the earth; and the last part, also all the year round,
consists of six days/five nights visiting The Sacred Lake - Lake Titicaca, the origin of
great cultures. |
THE ANDEAN
SOCIETY AND ITS CONCEPTS OF ILLNESS
This tour is dedicated to the study of illness in
primitive societies and the evolutions of treatments. The tour lasts 12 or 15 days. It
includes conferences and discussions subjects with multimedia presentations at the various
localities the tour visits. It runs all year around. Minimum number of persons: four.
Please, call for details. When one examines the traditional medicine in different
primitive societies, from ancient times until today one will find a great similarity in
their beliefs on the origins and causes of illness. A dominant universal feature is the
pre-logical or magical thinking, especially concerning healing practices. Magic belief is
filled with all kinds of concepts about the development of diseases.
The positive and the negative alternate according to the orientation of the attitudes,
thus it is often that one finds that a physical accident is interpreted as a sacred
symbol. Inhabitants of the natural living world are activated by the influence of the
social living world and all is governed by the influence of the supernatural world. To the
Indian, illness is so mysterious, that being unable to explain it rationally, he
interprets it as animism, as magic or as something else. Popular medical knowledge has its
own ethnopathogenic concepts, the somatization of the pain and its ethnonogical
interpretation form the cultural syndromes of which "el susto" (the fright) in
one of the best known. |

ECOTURISM AND BIRDS OF PERU
This tour is dedicated to the observation of the
largest concentration of birds in the whole world - 1700 species in a 15 or 22 day tour.
It runs from April to November. Minimum four persons. Please, call for details.
"PERU" the mention of the third largest country in South America brings to mind
its Capital, Lima, the famous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, and maybe the Andes, but often
the uninitiated traveler knows little else. In reality, Peru is the geological and
geographically most diverse country in the world, and this is also reflected in its
biodiversity, as well as in its multitudinous cultural elements.
|
It is, however, a country whose name is synonymous
with birds it has more species of birds than any other country in the world (the
unofficial total is now 1702 species, with 1678 officially listed in Parker, et al.,
"An Annotated Checklist of the Birds of Peru", (Buteo Books, Vermillion, South
Dakota).
Birdwatching in Peru is best when one has several weeks to visit most of the
representative habitats, such as the deserts, wave-washed shores, the lagoons of the
coast, the arid, but ever-changing western slopes of the Andes, the high Puna grasslands
and lakes of the altiplano, the lush, wet cloud forests of the eastern slopes, and the
vast forested lowlands of the Amazon basin. It is in Peru's Amazon that one can visit
areas where as many as five species of macaws, seven of toucans, and a host of other
tropical wonders can be seen; at some lodges over 500 species have been recorded. One
cannot cover Peru's birdlife in a short article such as this, but the season birdwatcher
must plan time in the deserts of NW Peru, as well as the nearby dry forest, the vast
highlands, especially in the south, the wet cloud forest on the eastern slopes (where
orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and other plants also demand one's attention), and, of course,
the Amazon forests where a stay of 5-6 days still only wets ones appetite for more. (Text
